Amoy Bradshaw-Cox was born to Lena Padilla and Kenrick Seow on June 18th, 1949 in Valencia, Trinidad and is the eldest of four children. She enjoyed a happy childhood until the age of fifteen (15) when she was forced to abandon her schooldays for the work force due to her mother’s illness and the absence of her father in the home.
Her early labours included sales clerk, dental assistant trainee, and various odd jobs but eventually settled at the family’s business which was a garden and cook shop. At age twenty-two she met her first love, Winston Bradshaw, and after six months of courtship they were married. She soon became a mother to six children; five girls and one boy.
Despite her lack of a formal education, Amoy found creative ways to stay active in her community. She had a natural gift for business and finance. As a stay at home mother, she would often occupy her spare time by finding worthy volunteer service in her community. Amoy especially loved taking care of the elderly. She would spend several hours a day helping out at senior centres, cooking and caring for this group. To this date, Amoy still finds time to visit and care for the elderly and those that are sick or otherwise in need of assistance. She also found ways to challenge herself and stimulate her mind by investing in friends and family type businesses, until finally she convinced her husband for them to start a business of their own. They started a family pallor which Amoy ran with a couple hired employees. Her kind-heartedness and love of others made the competitive business a success. This is where she gained most of her skills in finance and administration.
Although Amoy grew up in a religious home, it was not until she was 37 years old that her clear understanding of Jesus Christ and a testimony of his atonement came. Of course life has its challenges for everyone and Amoy’s life was no exception. After twenty two years of marriage her husband passed away which left her questioning much of her faith and beliefs. It was at this time that she had a visit from some members of another religious organization and received comfort from the scriptures; namely 1 Corinthians 15. This chapter was soon to be the catalyst for her in becoming an avid labourer in the works of the Lord. Much of Amoy life since that event has been a servant to those around her, and a soldier in the Lord’s army. She continued worshiping at various churches and has since found herself back to where she began, with a greater conviction of her Lord and Saviour.
In November 2009 she married John Cox, a childhood friend. She now volunteers at various shelters, homes, and at the Garden of Healing where she is one of the Directors.
